(almost) Happy New Year

It is almost a new year. This is always a time of mixed emotions for me. I love getting a fresh, new calendar and the prospect of a fresh start. But it is the end of another year, which seems to go by faster every year. I gave up making resolutions a long time ago! I seem to lose my focus somewhere along the way. I guess one thing I've learned in all these years is that change happens and it is okay to adapt. That said, there are a few things I want to work on this year. I have to get into better shape and I want to study the Word more. Our pastor made a good point this morning in saying that the Word does no good until we write it on our hearts. Amen! (or The End, as Kirsten says!)

Anyway, I think we are all on the mend here. Marks eye gets better everyday. If you would like to see a picture, just let me know and I'll email it to you!

Have a safe and happy new year!

Christmas Traditions

I try every year to make Christmas a magical time. We don't always get to do everything on my list but there are a few that always manage to come together.

Christmas Eve is a big tradtion filled day. I usually have something I have to go to the store for. Either a last minute item or a recipe ingrediant I've forgotten. The girls always get some new pjs. We leave out milk and cookies for Santa. Last year we started painting our toenails red which I hope we continue to do.

The cards are in the mail!

Well, I got our Christmas cards in the mail today. Better late than never, I suppose. One week before Christmas is better than after Christmas (which I did one year)!

I encluded this blog address in some of the cards to out of town folks. Hopefully that will help me keep this up to date!

I am currently feeling the holiday stress. One week until the big day and there is so much I still want to do. But I'm feeling exhausted. The past 5 days have just about done me in. I had planned on getting our shopping done this weekend. But Wednesday, Courtney came home from school with a rash. I took her to the doctor who couldn't identify it, so she labeled it "viral". I am halfway convinced that she had a mild case of the chicken pox but who knows. Then Thursday night, Kirsten started running a fever and coughing. The fever lasted until Saturday afternoon, but she still has the cough and so does Courtney. Friday, on the way to work, Mark notices something weird going on with his right eye. He leaves work early to start a 6 hour long journey to find out that he has a torn retina. So, they schedule emergency surgery for Saturday morning. All day Saturday was spent at the hospital. The surgery went great but he is out of commission for a while.

So here I am stressed about when and how I am going to get everything done! I know it will all come together but that thought isn't slowing my heart rate at the moment!

More later!

High School Musical 2

Last night was the big premier of High School Musical 2. Courtney had a few friends over to watch the movie and have fun. They really didn't watch the movie so I'm not sure if it was good or not! They all seemed to have fun so that is the important thing!

First day of school

Courtney's first day of the third grade. She is not thrilled! She loves school but not the getting up and getting there! Who does!?

I actually scrapped!

I had to make myself get my stuff out but once I did I was able to get some pages done. There is nothing special about them but I was able to use some of my older stash! Check out that ancient K & Co. stuff! These photos have distorted the colors a little bit. I need a scanner!

An update

Again, time flies faster than you realize! Other than everyday life there have been a couple of highlights for the last month.
First, we celebrated our nephew, Lucas's 6th birthday at this great indoor pool in Murfreesboro. The girls had a great time and we went again last week. I imagine we will have several more visits this summer.

Then, while Jessica was home for spring break. Mark and I got away for a couple of days. It was very relaxing but too short!

Last week and this week is spring break for most of the kids around here. Last Friday we made a visit to the zoo. The Nashville Zoo is not the greatest but they are making improvements and once their plan is completed I think it will be a lot better. Our only complaint about our visit is that it was dang hot!

This weekend was our Webb family get together for Easter. We had a good meal and the kids had an egg hunt. It was a beautiful day! I'm glad we did it a week early since it looks like Easter will be chilly!

Our new pet

Meet Snowflake. She is a cute, white poodle. Courtney adopted her this weekend thanks to an enabler friend of mine (thanks Lori). Anyway, evidently this is the latest craze. These little stuffed animals called Webkinz. You purchase one of these adorable pets at your local Hallmark store or gift shop for a mire $10. Each animal comes with a special code. You go to webkinz.com and registure your pet. Magically it comes alive on your computer! You are then sucked into the webkinz world. In this world, your pet is given a room. You must then purchase items for this room and decorate it. You can buy floors, walls, furniture and accessories. You must also purchase food, toys, games and clothing for your pet to keep her happy and healthy. You purchase all these things with kinzkash which you earn by playing games, answering trivia and performing a job everyday.

I wasn't too thrilled about this at first but I can't let Courtney feel left out, can I? But it is actually pretty fun! Courtney loves it! Oh, another thing. Once your friends all get their pets online, you can talk to each other and have your pets play with each other online. We haven't tried this feature yet but I'm sure it won't be long.

We'll see how long this trend lasts!

Movin' Slow

Courtney, Mark and I are moving slow this morning. Mark got home very late last night from a work trip filled with mishapes, such as delayed flights, bumped hotel reservations and car rental issues.

Courtney and I are sluggish because we went roller skating with the Girl Scout troop last night. A new skating rink opened here so we thought we would try it out. Courtney finally got the hang of it 15 minutes before we had to leave. But she is in no hurry to go back! Her bottom is sore from all the falls. Kirsten really enjoyed it and can't wait to go again. Kirsten and I had a nasty fall at one point. I have a bad bruise on my knee, one elbow is pretty sore and I have a carpet burn on my hand from the carpeted wall we ran into. She bumped her head on the floor and it started to swell last night but this morning there is just a little red spot. She says it hurts when she touches it. My body has that general ache all over from trying to hold them both up all night! Jessica came in town and met us there. She was a great help with Kirsten while I tried to get Courtney on her wheeled feet! I wouldn't be able to walk today if I had had to drag them both around all night! I took some pictures but with my film camera so I can't share them yet. I didn't want to risk a fall with my digital!

Overall it was a good experience. I enjoyed sharing something from my childhood and they were impressed with my skating ability (which has suffered greatly from lack of use). We might have to get us all a pair of skates now!

A new adjective

Sorry I haven't updated this blog in so long and sorry to start back with a complaint! My new adjective isn't really new. The way I am going to choose to use it is new. "Comcastic" now means the opposite of it's intended meaning. To me, "Comcastic" equals crap, unreliable, horrible, frustrating, you get the idea. A few months ago, we down graded to have the limited basic service with the family tier. This required Comcast to come out and install one of their oh-so-attractive boxes to our TV. Ever since then, our service has been anything BUT "Comcastic" (their definition).

This is also my new swear word. I don't say ugly words but do, occasionally feel the anger and frustation that causes some people to throw out the explitives. So instead of saying, "That really 'stinks' (our whatever is your choice word)! I will now say, "That is really Comcastic !", in a sarcastic tone of course.

So if you hear this coming from me, you'll know what I mean!

Birthday #3!

Our silly girl is now 3! It seems as though time has flown and then it seems like she has been in our life always! She is our comic relief and our cuddle bug. Her loving spirit always makes us smile.

I think the party was a success. I made the mistake of having it at 2:00. Kirsten was not in the best of moods. Afternoons are not her best time. She is just about over taking a nap everyday but her body still needs it! She konked out at 6:00 after everyone left and slept until 8:00 the next morning!

If you will notice on the cake, the icing is a bit messed up where the candle is. Kirsten couldn't wait until cake time to stick her fingers in and give it a taste! So that is the spot the candle got to be!
